Fun Facts
CaC03 tolerance-high. Prefers alkaline soil. This species is an attractive, well behaved, good for home gardens or medium/moist meadows, sandy/rocky soil/shores/wetlands. It is a dense, clump forming, cool season species that actively grows in the spring and fall when soil temperature is cool. Because of the dense tufts of leaves and the light airy spray of flower stems this species is very attractive in a mass planting or as a matrix species. Seeds of this species are slow to germinate. Attracts birds. Larval host to the Umber skipper (Poanes melane).
Sow seeds in the spring. Complimentary plants include Agastache scrophulariifolia(purple giant hyssop), blephilia ciliata(downy wood mint), doellingeria umbrella(flat top white aster). There are numerous cultivars in the nursery trade.
