Soft Rush has smooth, round green stems and a graceful upright habit. It grows in marshes, wet meadows, shorelines, and ditches. It prefers consistently wet soils but can tolerate average garden conditions if moisture is available. Its architectural form makes it useful in pond edges, and modern native landscapes. It forms dense clumps but is not usually aggressive. It tolerates standing water.
