Awl-fruited Sedge is typically found in wet meadows, swamps, and floodplains. It does not tolerate dry habitats and prefers a sunny spot. It forms dense upright tufts of grass-like leaves and produces stems bearing flowers that mature in the summer into clusters of prickly brown seed heads.
