Pennsylvania Smartweed produces slender spikes of small pink flowers throughout summer. It is more naturally suited to informal or naturalized areas than highly maintained flower borders. It may appear spontaneously in damp garden areas and is best suited to naturalized plantings rather than formal beds. It can tolerate disturbed and compacted soils and can become abundant where soil remains wet. While it is easy to grow it is not necessarily a good choice where a tidy appearance is important.
