Faits intéressants
Short's Aster is a hardy native woodland perennial with lavender-blue to pale violet flowers and distinctive heart-shaped leaves. It blooms in late summer and fall, bringing colour to woodland gardens and shady borders when many other woodland plants have finished flowering. It is is named after Charles Wilkins Short, a 19th-century American botanist and physician. Its heart-shaped leaves are one of its most useful identification features. The flowers have a yellow centre that gradually becomes reddish-purple as the flower ages, adding subtle colour changes throughout the blooming period. It is one of the asters that does particularly well in woodland conditions, rather than requiring the full sun preferred by many prairie asters.
