Wingstem has upright stems and distinctive leafy wings running along the stems. It produces clusters of bright yellow, daisy-like flowers from late summer into fall. It is an excellent choice for the back of a native border, woodland edge, meadow or naturalized garden. It can spread vigorously, particularly in moist, fertile soil. It is best suited to larger gardens or naturalized areas where some spread is desirable. You can divide or remove sections of the clump in spring if it begins to spread beyond the desired area. Its height can make it an impressive background plant, but it can easily overwhelm a small border.
